Nose Surgery
Nose Surgery

Reconstructive nose surgery is medically known as rhinoplasty and is a procedure that can be used cosmetically to change the shape and size of the patient’s nose for a more desirable appearance.

This procedure can also be used to correct birth defects, broken noses, accidents that have affected the appearance or function of the nose or to improve the overall function of the nose.

Do I Need or Qualify for Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)?

You may wish to have a rhinoplasty you are self-conscious about the size and shape of your nose, if you have medical issues because due to the current structure of your nose or if you have an abnormality such as a cleft palate. To qualify for this surgical procedure, you should be in good health without any underlying serious medical conditions that could increase risk from surgery. It is very important for the patient to ensure they have a positive attitude and are realistic about the final results.

How is the Rhinoplasty Performed?

Depending on your specific case, there are a variety of techniques that can be used to successfully complete a rhinoplasty procedure. Generally, Dr. Rodas will make small incisions to separate the skin of the nose from its associated framework and will proceed to remodel the nose as necessary. Occasionally, rhinoplasty will require the addition of bone. This is done by performing a graft using donor bone or cartilage from another part of the body or by using a synthetic material. During your consultation with Dr. Rodas, he will explain the recommended course of action to best meet your desired expectations.

What are the Pre-Operative Preparations?
Prior to surgery, you will need to go to your family doctor and have an ECG and CBC (complete Blood Count). Along with these medical processes, you will need to submit before photos. You will also be required to read and complete our questionnaire on our website. Remember that Dr. Rodas will only do what is requested. Be specific and note any problem areas you would like fixed.
What are the Risks and Possible Complications?
Complication rates are very low; however, common risks include, but are not limited to: bleeding, infection, nerve damage and tissue scarring. Several weeks prior to the surgery you should discontinue use of aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications and alcohol as these may all increase your risk of excessive bleeding. There should be minimal scarring; however, you should be prepared for scarring should it occur. Dr. Rodas does a remarkable job, but there are instances where complications may arise that can cause unfavourable scarring. Occasionally scarring can occur which may obstruct nasal airways.
What is the Recover Period for Rhinoplasty?
The recovery period for this procedure is minimal. Stents will be implemented to immobilize the affected area. Bruising and swelling should reduce within 2-3 weeks. After approximately 1 week, Dr. Rodas will remove the sutures and the stents will be removed within 1-2 weeks. Pain should be minimal and it should be noted that each patient is different and may heal at different rates. Post-operative directives provided by Dr. Rodas and his team should be followed during patient recovery.
