Arm Lift
Arm Lift Surgery

An arm lift, medically known as brachioplasty, is the removal of loose skin and excess fat around your upper arm area. This procedure tightens the skin creating a more youthful and beautiful contour.

Depending on how much excess skin needs to be removed, an incision is made on the inside of the arm from the elbow to the armpit. There are various other ways that the surgeon might make the incisions and this would be decided prior to surgery after the surgeon has a chance to take a consult with you.

Do I Need or Qualify for an Arm Lift?

If you have excessive or sagging skin on your arms, typically caused by massive weight loss, you may be qualified and interested in having an arm lift. To qualify for this surgery, you should be in good health without any underlying serious medical conditions that could increase risk from surgery. Arm lifts are ideal for individuals who have lost a lot of weight and do not anticipate regaining the lost weight. It is very important for the patient to ensure they have a positive attitude and are realistic about the final results.

What are the Pre-Operative Preparations?
Prior to surgery, you will need to go to your family doctor and have an ECG and CBC (complete Blood Count) along with these medical processes you will need to submit before photos. You will also be required to read and complete our questionnaire on our website. Remember the surgeon will only do what is requested. Be specific and note any problem areas you would like fixed.
What are the Risks and Possible Complications?
Complication rates are very low; however, common risks include, but are not limited to: excessive bleeding, skin loss around incision site, blood clots, numbness, incision separation, skin discolouration, persistent pain, fat necrosis, recurrent looseness of the skin, deep vein thrombosis, cardiac & pulmonary complications and nerve damage. You should be prepared for scarring. Dr. Rodas does a remarkable job, but there are instances where complications may arise that can cause unfavourable scarring.
What is the Recovery Period for an Arm Lift?
You may have your arms wrapped or have to use a support garment for a few weeks and Dr. Rodas may suggest that you elevate your arms during recovery. It is best to ensure you have a companion with you as you will have reduced mobility and will be unable to carry anything. Most swelling will go down by 6 weeks, however, your final results be seen anywhere between 3 – 6 months after surgery.
